Captain's Log

With two small kids my time for outdoor adventure has diminished. However I'm now trying to find activities that will suit my new lifestyle. This blog will follow my outdoor pursuits in general and this year will focus a lot on my experimentation with sailing.

Rich, Blair, Ben, Angel and I decided to head out on the boat for one more sail before the end of the year. The weather was a typical late October day in Toronto. 9 degrees celsius, cloudy with sunny breaks and between 10-15 knots of wind. Absolutely perfect for a fall sail.

We're lucky that the boat has a full bimini and dodger. With all of the pieces up it creates a very warm cockpit even though it was obviously quite cold out. When we were in the cockpit we were fine with just a sweatshirt but when we ventured out on deck a toque, gloves and jacket were necessary if you wanted to be out there for a while to enjoy the scenery and fresh air.

We decided that our journey would take us to the Scarborough Bluffs probably about 10 miles east of the city. I had never seen it from the water and wanted to make the trip.

We had great wind and hit a top speed of 7 knots under Ben's watch. It was a great ride and was an absolutely fantastic way to end the sailing season.
