Ocracoke Adventure by Jeep

This montage was shot entirely in and around Ocracoke Island. Ocracoke is “hidden gem” located on the North Carolina Coast, also known as the Outer Banks. It’s beaches have been rated among the best in North America!

The island is small, and a National Park, so be sure to book your camping sites well in advance. And the only way to get there is by Ferry, so be patient, you may have to wait awhile. We camped there for over a week, it is well worth the ferry ride! It is quiet and the small town on the island is quaint and friendly. Check out http://www.ocracokeisland.com

Some advice: Bring extra long tent stakes, and if you forget them, buy some in town. The wind can kick up something fierce and you’ll find your tent in the ocean if you don’t nail it down and good. You will be camping on sand, and it’s not as “stake friendly” as dirt.

Some information on where we stayed:

An oceanfront campground 3 miles east of Ocracoke Village just behind the dunes, this National Park Service campground maintains 136 campsites. No utility hookups or laundry facilities are available, but there are cold showers, a dumping station, drinking water, charcoal grills, and flush toilets. As at all Park Service campgrounds, stays are limited to 14 days. The facility is open May through September. Since most of these sites sit directly in the sun, bring some sort of shade. Long tent stakes help to hold down tents against the often fierce winds that whip through this campground. The breeze, however, is a welcome relief from summer heat. Bug spray is a must in the summer. Ocracoke is the only campground on the island operated by the National Park Reservation Service. Call or visit the Web site from mid-May through mid-September to make reservations. Major credit cards are accepted. Sites are assigned on a first-come, first-served. All sites are $20/night.

COffee! We are coffee fanatics, can’t function without it, and have become somewhat “connoisseur-ish” about the whole thing. And in Ocracoke you should check out the “Ocracoke Coffee Company”. They are on the Back Road, hard to find at first. They have wireless internet, comfy couches, and the best darn coffee you’ll find.
