Most often called the Fu by English speakers, this is a powerful, scenic white-water river in the south of Chile. Though the area is still rustic and tourism is almost non-existent, the name rolls off the tongues of white-water kayakers and rafters because of its status as one of the best rivers in the world for adventurers.

Kayak season is November to April, coinciding with South American summer. Be warned, though, this is no tropical destination, and the water is glacial runoff from the Andes.

Area’s natural resources are in danger of being harmed by mining exploration and hydroelectric projects.

Several North American tour operators run kayaking schools and guide services to the Fu.
