Les Amis de la Rivière Kipawa
Les Amis de la Riviere Kipawa (Friends of the Kipawa River) is a grass-roots advocacy organization formed to protect the Kipawa River (in Quebec, Canada; from Lake Kipawa to Lake Temiscaming) from exploitation and ecological harm.
It came into existence in 1998 to counter a Hydro-Quebec proposal to divert the river to a generating station.
The stretch of the Kipawa in question is located near Laniel, Quebec (details and directions needed), near Temiscaming, and not far over the Ontario border from North Bay.
The organization runs the annual Kipawa River Rally (scheduled for June 23-24, 2007) (separate Guidebook entry needed), and oversees the Kipawa River Trail.
Current Projects
In addition to the 2007 Kipawa River Rally, the group is offering the River Karma Raffle:
- 200 tickets available (great odds)
- $25/ticket
- prizes include a boat from Liquid Logic and a paddle from Aquabound
200 numbered blocks of foam will be dumped in a sticky hole on the river. The first three out win prizes.
