The Mac Johson Wildlife area is located on Debruge Road, just off Hwy 29, north of Brockville, Ontario. The area is managed by the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority and encompasses more than 500 hectares of "Class 1" wetland, mixed forest, and open meadow.

Hiking, x-country skiing, and snowshoeing are available on a series of five interconnecting, looped trails that together form 11km of terrain – including the 1km Wildflower Loop, which is designed as an interpretive trail. Fishing, picnicking, and skating are also available. Canoe access is possible off Centennial Rd in the south-east corner of the park.

Also known to locals as the Back Pond, it is home to more than 160 species of migratory birds. Of special interest are the 11 Trumpeter Swans, released in 2000. The magnificent birds are part of the Conservation Authority’s efforts to restore and reintroduce the animals to the region.

Events, seminars and workshops are offered frequently at the Nature Centre, including a "Winter Fun Day" which occurs in late January and includes an afternoon of sled-dog racing.

For more information contact the Conservation Authority at (613) 546-4228 or e-mail: crca@cataraquiregion.on.ca. Information can also be obtained from the Friends of Mac Johnson Park (http://www.superaje.com/~macjohnson/).
